Privacy & Battery Savings for Jailbroken iPhones

« on: September 01, 2009, 04:05:43 AM »
Since jailbreaking an iPhone, battery drains faster due to unnecessary 'phoning home' by apps. Aside from the invasion of privacy, such activities also keep the iPhone and network connections active.

By installing PrivaCY from Cydia, and blocking the apps from connecting unnecessarily, battery power is saved.

To do this, here's a step by step:
1. Install PrivaCY from Cydia.
2. Install OpenSSH, also from Cydia.
3. SFTP to your iPhone via an FTP program such as Transmit (for Mac)
--- user: root
--- pass: alpine
--- the first time you connect, it takes about 30-60 seconds
4. Go to /etc folder.
5. Rename the original hosts file to hosts.bak
6. Install this as your new hosts file, and restart...
Code: [Select]
